Tom Pierce talks about Management Training
Q Tom, how do you define Management Training?
A Whether it’s a live workshop or a lively Webinar, our goal is to strengthen skills that will improve workplace performance and increase career potential. We create customized workshops and keynotes that are bright, innovative, engaging… and effective. We design and deliver emotionally intelligent learning.
Q What do you mean by emotionally intelligent learning?
A We recognize that different people learn differently. The internationally respected Stern Center for Language and Learning put it this way: Great Minds Don’t Think Alike. Our training always blends emotional engagement and intellectual stimulation. We believe that interaction accelerates learning. Adults learn more by talking with each other than by listening to “talking heads.”
Q You are certified in Emotional Intelligence training, or EQ. What is it?
A The answer could take an entire course…or an entire lifetime…but here is the Tom’s Notes version: The simplest definition of EQ is “the intelligent use of your emotions.” I believe that focusing on and enhancing an individual’s emotional intelligence—and even and entire team’s emotional intelligence—is essential for improving personal performance and organizational development.
Q What are the building blocks of Emotional Intelligence?
A Self-Awareness and Self-Management are the two personal aspects of Emotional Intelligence. Social Awareness and Relationship Management are the two interpersonal or social aspects of Emotional Intelligence.
Q Tom, can you clarify how Emotional Intelligence and emotionally intelligent learning create effective Training programs?
A Here’s how we apply concepts introduced on this Training page:
It’s important that you use your emotions intelligently in the workplace. First, you need to be aware of how your emotions affect you and affect others. Next, you need to manage your emotions well. Then, when you’re with other people, you need to “read between the lines” to be aware of what they are really feeling.
The goal of these building blocks is improve the most complex EQ skill: managing relationships successfully when you first meet someone and over many years.
Because human interaction is fundamental to human performance, Emotional Intelligence is fundamental to most of the training we do, from leadership development, to crisis communication, to customer service, to sales training. Pierce Management Development also creates courses in Emotional Intelligence itself, because EQ is the spark that can ignite so much workplace excellence.
